Titu Maiorescu

Titu Liviu Maiorescu (* February 15, 1840 in Craiova, † July 1, 1917 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian lawyer, literary critic, writer, philosopher and politician, as such he was, among other Romanian Prime Minister of 1912 until 1914.

Part of his training was Maiorescu at the Academic Gymnasium in Vienna. He studied in Vienna, Berlin, Giessen, Paris, and in 1872 Professor of Philosophy in Iasi, 1884 in Bucharest. Maiorescu was a founding member of the Cultural Committee " Junimea " and the magazine " Convorbiri lite rare".

Maiorescu had significant towards the end of the 19th century influence on the intellectual life of Romania. He promoted the Romanian literature and is considered the founder of the Romanian literary criticism. Also, the Romanian orthography was reformed by him.

As several ministers Maiorescu took on especially public education. As Prime Minister, he led his country in the Second Balkan War. This ended in Romania with an area of just over 7500 km ² profit at the expense of Bulgaria.

After Maiorescu also the Romanian Cultural Institute in Berlin and the University Titu Maiorescu in Bucharest was named.
