TMK

TMK (Russian Тяжелый Межпланетный Корабль: Tjaschelyi Meschplanetnyi Korabl = Heavy Interplanetary vehicle) was the name of a Soviet project for a manned Venus and Mars flyby. The TMK spacecraft should start in 1971 and complete a three-year round trip with a Mars flyby, in which probes on Mars should have been dropped. The TMK project, which would have represented a response to the Soviet manned moon landings in the space race, could not be implemented because the required booster rocket, the N1, did not work.
