Tønder Festival

The Tønder Festival is held annually Folk and Roots Music Festival in Tønder in Denmark. It is the largest festival of its kind in Europe and one of the biggest folk festivals in the world.

Expiration

The music festival takes place on the last weekend in August, from Thursday to Sunday. Overall, nearly 30 concerts at several venues will be given on the grounds that have 180-2700 courts. Since 2012 there is a new concept. Well no more single tickets are sold, but daily, weekend or weekly tickets for the entire festival grounds and all occurring there concerts. The ticket will be worn as a colored bracelet. Average well over 20,000 tapes are sold. The biggest stages are available in two tents at the festival space southwest of the city center. In addition, an open- air setting is used with a large stage south of the actual festival square. Also new is the " Bourbon Street", a self-contained terrain, the so-called mirror tent located at its center. This works from the inside, due to the wide range of wood, mirrors and Art Deco elements such as a club in New Orleans. Here all kinds of concerts are held. The venues in the city ( hall, city hall, etc. ) have been abandoned, but also play there free groups in the pedestrian zone or in pubs and cafes. In addition to known quantities of the folk scene, particularly from Ireland, the UK, North America and Scandinavia also occur less well-known artists. For them also workshops and master classes will be offered.

In each case, approximately 150 senior and about 2000 other helpers are volunteers for the festival. The festival is mainly visited by Danes and Germans.

The festival is organized by the Tønder Festival Fund and the Tønder Festival Forening ( Tønder Festival Club ). The Tønder Festival Fund operates the subsidiary Millstrema Records, which mainly sold on the internet folk and roots music. Tønder Festivalens ApS Venner ( Friends of the Tønder Festival ) operates the venue Hagge 's Music Pub in Tønder, where year-round take place folk and roots music concerts.
