Action

The film is set in a village school in the Auvergne, in which all children are taught until the end of primary school in a class. George Lopez is the only teacher of a class that has to respond to the individual developments of his children and the responsibility of raising the children almost alone. Chance sees some adults.

The film begins in winter in a snow landscape and ends in the summer.

Reception

In particular, the remoteness of the region and being together in a confined space permit accurate and sensitive insights into the characters of the children and their teacher. Also, the viewer can see how the children develop and emerge their personality.

The film is also quiet in the focus on the students who are at one with yourself. On the other hand, it also leaves the magic of this stage of life again be felt when they play and explore life.

Awards

The film received the 2002 Louis- Delluc Prize and the European Film Award for Best Documentary and was founded in 2003 for the César in the categories of Best Film, Best Director and nominated in the category Best Editing. In the same year the award of the Syndicat Français de la Critique de Cinéma followed as the best French film.
