Toba Inlet

Toba Inlet is a fjord on the coast of British Columbia. It is 2.5 km wide and 35 km long. The fjord begins in Sliammon First Nation, where the Toba River empties and ends north of East Redonda Iceland.

History

The first Europeans arrived with the Community expedition of George Vancouver for the English and Dionisio Alcalá Galiano for the Spaniard to the area. On June 25, 1792 Vancouver sent three boats to explore the area from the west on Redonda Iceland erect from base. One of them left the base with Cayetano Valdés y Flores on 25 June and returned on 27 June. Valdés reported on the Fjord, that it was very deep and would be surrounded by steep slopes and mountains. He also reported on board on the east side (Spanish table ) with drawings, which he called " hieroglyphics of the locals " and found many uninhabited villages. After the board he named the bay Canal de la Tabla. In order to confirm the report of the Spaniard, the British explored later also the bay. The name of Valdés was taken, however, by an error of a Spanish cartographer to Canal de la Toba, Toba Inlet So.
