Catchment area of the Tobol
The Tobol (Russian Тобол, Kazakh Тобыл ) is a 1591 km long tributary of the Irtysh River in the Asian part of Russia and Kazakhstan.
River
The river is formed at the boundary of the Kazakh territory Qostanai and the Russian Orenburg Oblast on the eastern slope of the Southern Urals from the small, about 30-40 km long and periodically desiccating headwaters Bosbije from the left and from the right Kokpektyssai. From there, it flows northeast across the Turgai plateau. After seven dams, and about 320 kilometers of the Tobol reached near the town Rudny the West Siberian Lowland. It flows through the Kazakh territory Qostanai and the Russian oblasts of Kurgan and Tyumen. In Tobolsk it flows into the Irtysh.
