Tocra

Taucheira (also Teuchira or Tocra ) was an ancient Greek port city in Cyrenaica, in what is now Libya.

Taucheira was probably founded around 625 BC. The city had a significant Demeter sanctuary in which very much imported pottery from Greece was found in excavations. In the Hellenistic period, the city was named Arsinoe, and had among the Romans the status of a colony. Under Emperor Justinian the city was fortified.

The city was relatively small with approximately 500 × 500 m. She had a map with streets intersecting at right angles.

In Taucheira also a cemetery with numerous Jewish inscriptions found.
