Tocuyito on the map of Venezuela

Tocuyito is a city south of Valencia in the state of Carabobo in northern Venezuela.

It is the capital of the district ( municipality ) Libertador. Run through the city motorway connecting Valencia to the Llanos and Barquisimeto. The prison of Tocuyito located nearby.

History

The city was founded in 1547 by Juan de Villegas. Not far from Tocuyito in 1821 instead of the Battle of Carabobo, which was very important for the independence of Venezuela.

President Antonio Guzmán Blanco declared Tocuyito the capital of the state of Carabobo in 1881, but the former village remained capital for only five months. The troops of the government of Ignacio Andrade were there defeated by the forces of Revolución Liberal Restorative Dora led by Cipriano Castro on September 14, 1899.

Traffic

The Autopista Regional del Centro highway between Valencia and Carabobo Campo is the main link between Tocuyito and other regions. There are also the so-called carretera vieja between Guasima and Valencia.
