Aujourd'hui is a Senegalese- French film from 2012. Directed by Alain Gomis, who had also written the screenplay. Action
Satché is for the last day of his life from the United States to his native country, Senegal, returned. When he wakes up on the day in his room, he perceives the room and its objects, as if seeing it for the first time. When he leaves the room, already his large family waiting for him. His mother hugs him and cries. He sits passively at a table, while the other list its good and bad qualities. Then Satché separated from his family and runs through the streets of Dakar and looks half-finished building, plastic trash and get a total of a little glorified impression of his city. He is accompanied by people who celebrate, dance, laugh, play music and give him gifts for the journey to the underworld. Then leaves this impression on Satché gradually he realized more and more the negative aspects of the city which he had ousted from his memory. Given these facts, it is silent and still moves like someone who belongs there. In the evening he returns home, lies down and closes his eyes.
Background
Aujourd'hui was shot in a suburb of Dakar. It was produced by Eric Idriss Kanago, GillesSandoz and Oumar Sall, so its funding partly came from Africa itself. As co-producer Alain Guesnier and Agora film formation was observed from Paris. The main actor Saul Williams is an American singer and actor. Had Aujourd'hui on 10 February 2012 its world premiere at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, in which competition he started.
Reviews
Verene Lueken saw the movie for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and assessed him doing positive. She saw in him " the first surprise in the Berlinale Competition ". Lueken came to the conclusion: " Aujourd'hui is in its single-acting form ( the last 24 hours) a complex story that requires no flashbacks and telling yet of earlier ( and in view of the ruined buildings also later). It is, also it must be said, a movie like him love juries. Berlinale jury since. " For the standard Dominik Kamalzadeh -reviewed the film and judged him positively. He praised the camera Christelle Fournier and Gomis production of the film. In addition Kamalzadeh evaluated the film as well as the opening film Farewell, My Queen! as evidence that the competition of the year 2012 recorded would braver. Critical commented Andreas Borcholte for Spiegel Online.
