Todd Brooker

Todd Brooker (* November 24, 1959 in Paris, Ontario) is a former Canadian alpine skier. From 1977 to 1987, the downhill member of the Canadian National Ski Team and is regarded as the last rider of the so-called Crazy Canucks.

Brooker began as a four year old with the skiing and denied at the age of 12 years racing in Ontario and Quebec. In 1975, he first won the Canadian Junior Championships in the downhill and moved in 1977 to the squad of the Canadian National Ski Team. After a serious knee injury that forced him in 1979 to more than a year break, he won in December 1981 in Val Gardena his first World Cup points. Just three months later he was thanks to a second place finish in the downhill of Aspen for the first time on the podium.

In the 1982/83 season he celebrated the legendary Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel and in Aspen his first two victories in the World Cup and finished the season at No. 1 on the FIS ranking in the downhill. In the same year he was elected to his home for skiers of the year. In the following years he established himself as top riders in the downhill. Throughout his career, he played a total of 62 in the World Cup downhill races, of which he finished in the points 33. He took three wins, was another four times on the podium and finished eight other races in the top ten.

A severe knee injury he incurred in Kitzbuhel, forced him in 1987 to end his career. On the occasion of his retirement he was awarded for his sportsmanship on 8 April 1987 with the Johhny F. Bassett Memorial Award.
