Toe Blake

Hector " Toe" Blake ( born August 21, 1912 in Victoria Mines, Ontario, † May 17, 1993 in Montreal, Quebec ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, who from 1935 to 1948 for the Montreal Maroons and Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Toe Blake grew up in poverty. His father worked in a nickel mine and had to supply next toe nor his 10 siblings. At age 23 he made at the Canadiens Maurice Richard and Elmer Lach, the " Punch Line". His way to the scorer ended in 1948 with 527 points, 21 of the then record away after a broken leg. He had won up to that point with the Canadiens three times the Stanley Cup. In 1955 he returned as coach of the Montreal Canadiens and won until his resignation in 1968 the Stanley Cup eight times. As coach of the Canadiens, he was in 914 NHL games of the team in the gang and was reached in 1968 as the second coach after Dick Irvin, the mark of 500 victories.

In 1966 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
