TofaÅŸ S.K.

Tofaş Spor Kulübü ( German Tofaş Sports Club) is a Turkish basketball club from Bursa. The club was twice champion and three times winner of the Cup Turkey. Until 1999 the club was known under the name Tofaş SAS.

History

The club was founded in 1974. From the outset, the Turkish automotive manufacturer Tofaş sponsored the club.

Since its establishment, first played in lower leagues before 1976 reached the summit in the first-class Türkiye Ligi Basketbol. There they established itself, was runner-up in 1978 and also reached after several times the play-offs. 1987 was arrested on Korać Cup, the year after the European Cup Winners' Cup in part, although not a basketball cup in Turkey has been played 1973-1992. It failed each morning.

1989 saw the unexpected descent, but Tofaş managed direct resurgence and in 1991 to the far times runner-up. In the following years established itself once again in the first division, but again without reaching the final. However, the club took the Turkish Basketball Cup in 1993, the first title in club history. European one was also permanently represented in this period. You saw the greatest success in 1997, with the achievement of the final of the Korać Cup, where Tofaş Aris Thessaloniki had to admit defeat.

1999 Tolga Öngören was later also EnBW Ludwigsburg and the Walter Tigers Tübingen coaching, coach of the club. He led the club to the first championship in the same year and took the trophy. The following year, the team played in the Euro League with, left in the first group stage, but defended the domestic double.

At the peak of athletic development, Tofaş SAS withdrew due to severe financial problems from the professional basketball and dismounted voluntarily.

2004, they rose after four years of absence, in the first division, but could not build on the successes of the past. There followed further down and climbs again. Since 2009 to play again constant in the first division, where each midfield places were achieved.

The club plays its home games in the comprehensive 3,500 places Bursa Atatürk Sport Hall.
