Action
Liu Cheng works as a cook in a small town in the south of the People's Republic of China. His 13 - year-old son Xiaochun applies in the area as a violin prodigy. To allow him a career, Liu Cheng travels with him to Beijing so that he takes part in a talent contest for children. Since he is without financial impact, Xiaochun is only fifth in the competition and not admitted to the Conservatory. Background
Director Chen Kaige discovered the young violinist Tang Yun at a violin competition in Shenyang and occupied the main role with him as amateur actors. The film had on 10 September 2002 at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere.
