Toijala

Toijala [ tɔi̯jɑlɑ ] is a formerly independent town in the countryside in the west Pirkanmaa Finland. Since 2007 it belongs to the city Akaa.

Toijala is located on the shores of Lake Vanajavesi in the southern landscape Pirkanmaa. The place is next to Viiala and Kylmäkoski one of three centers of settlement ( taajama ) of Akaa and the municipal seat. Toijala was already in the Middle Ages, the village church of the parish Akaa. In 1946 the church was dissolved and Akaa Toijala an independent market town ( kauppala ) levied. The rest of its territory was divided between the municipalities Viiala, Kylmäkoski and Sääksmäki. 1977 Toijala received its town charter. 2007 Toijala merged with the municipality of the city Viiala Akaa.

The city Toijala had an area of 58.5 square kilometers ( of which 7.5 square miles inland waters). The population was 8,419 last. The city was monolingual Finnish speakers.

Toijala has good transport links: On Toijala train station to connect the rail routes Helsinki -Tampere and Turku -Tampere. The State Road 3 from Helsinki via Tampere to Vaasa leads past Toijala and is expanded in this section as a motorway. In Toijala is the biggest factory for Mämmi, one ate for Easter Finnish food. 2005 Toijala the world championship in Mämmi - eating contest was held. Other attractions the wooden church from 1817, a medieval sacristy, which was built around 1510 in the first phase of a planned but unfinished stone church, and a locomotive and wallpapers Museum.
