Tok Cut-Off

The Tok Cut - Off is a highway in the U.S. state of Alaska, which over a distance of 201 km (125 mi ) from the Gakona Junction, 23 km ( 14 mi) of Glenallen on the Richardson Highway lying leads to Tok on the Alaska Highway.

The road was built in the 1940s and 1950s to direct connect Tok with the Richardson Highway. It has been cut-off ( dt = abbreviation ), because it reduces the travel distance between Alaska Highway and Valdez or Anchorage compared to going through Delta Junction and the Richardson Highway about 193 km (120 mi).

The road is sometimes referred to as part of the Glenn Highway.

Earthquake in 2002

The earthquake that shook the region in 2002, caused most damage to the cut-off, especially between the milestones 75 and 83, where the road was destroyed to its foundations.
