Tokyo Game Show

The Tokyo Game Show ( TGS short, jap東京 ゲーム ショウ, Tōkyō gemu Shō ) is a regularly held since 1996 trade fair for video games and computer games with affiliated conference in Chiba, Japan on the grounds of the Makuhari Messe. It belongs, together with the gamescom in Cologne and the E3 in Los Angeles at the largest fairs of the video game industry. Traditionally manufacturers use the show to new consoles, games and accessories to show. The new games are often shown in the form of playable demos or projects which are still in development as a trailer. The increased media exposure and attention is also used to place product announcements at press conferences in the run or in an opening speech.

Similar to the first day of the fair gamescom is the professional audience reserved. Of the nearly 180,000 visitors to the TGS in 2005 were around 80 % from Asia, 13% from North America and 7% from Europe.

The exhibition is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier 's Association (CESA ), in cooperation with Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. (Nikkei BP) and support by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Development

In the years 1996 to 2001, the fair was held twice a year, as spring and autumn than fair. Until the Spring Fair 1997, it was held at the Tokyo Big Sight and from the Autumn Fair 1997 at the Makuhari Messe. For Autumn Fair 2001, the organizers announced that the planned for the spring 2002 exhibition is eliminated and future fairs will take place only in September once a year. The change was justified by the resulting possible intense exhibition experience and the now international orientation of the fair.
