Tokyo Monorail

The Tōkyō Monorail (東京 モノレールJapanese, Tōkyō Monorēru ) is a monorail that runs between Hamamatsucho in the district of Minato, Tokyo and Haneda airport. The route was from the Tōkyō Monorail K. K. (東京 モノレール 株式会社. Tōkyō Monorēru Kabushiki - gaisha, Eng. Tokyo Monorail Co., Ltd. ) operated. JR East acquired in 2002 on a large scale equity stake in the company and now holds 70 percent of shares. The remaining equity shares are distributed on Hitachi ( 12 percent), Japan Airlines ( 9 percent) and All Nippon Airways ( 9 percent).

History

The elevated route along the Bay of Tokyo was established in 1964 for the Olympic Summer Games 1964. Was built the line from Hitachi Monorail System and is based on the ALWEG principle. Originally perverted the Tokyo Monorail Hamamatsucho and Haneda without stopping between. The first station, which was added later in the course, in 1965 the station Ōi Keibajō -mae (大 井 竞 马 场 前). In 1967, the station Seibijō (整 备 场) followed.

As the monorail was opened, the passenger terminal of Haneda Airport was south of the station Seibijō at the western end of the airfield. As part of the expansion of the airport, a new terminal was opened in 1993 there extended (Terminal 1) and the monorail. The former terminal building was demolished in order to expand the airstrip B can. The tunnel where the monorail originally was heading the terminal, was thus abandoned and returned to the Department of Transportation. He is still to this day under the airstrip B ( the tracks were removed and the tunnel mouth closed ).

2004, the route was extended for another station to the new Terminal 2.

Today, the Tokyo Monorail serves with their vehicles daily from 5:30 am to 0:00 clock clock and nine stations with approximately 127,000 passengers. A ride from the airport to Hamamatsucho costs 470 yen. With this capacity, the Tokyo Monorail is considered the busiest and most economical monorail in the world. On 24 January 2007, the 1500 - millionth passenger was transported.

On 21 October 2010 another station on the finished at that time new international terminal of Haneda Airport was opened.

Travel times

For the distance Hamamatsucho - Haneda Airport International Terminal of Haneda Express (no stops) requires about 13 minutes, the high-speed line ( three stops ) for about 16 minutes and the local train ( six stops ) for about 20 minutes. The journey times are daytime and depending on traffic.
