The Oceanographic Institute of Tokyo (Japanese东京 海洋 大学, Tōkyō Kaiyo daigaku, English Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, in short. Kaiyōdai (海洋 大) or TUMSAT ) is a public university in Japan. The main campus ( Shinagawa campus ) is located in Minato- ku, Tokyo.

History

The college was founded in 2003 by the merger of two state universities. The two were:

  • The Merchant Marine Academy Tokyo (东京 商船 大学, Tōkyō Shosen daigaku, English Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine, today. Etchūjima - campus) and
  • Fisheries High School Tokyo (东京 水产 大学, Tōkyō Suisan daigaku, English Tokyo University of Fisheries, today. Shinagawa campus ).

The Merchant Marine Academy Tokyo was established in 1875 by entrepreneur Iwasaki Yataro as Mitsubishi Naval School (三菱 商船 学校, Mitsubishi Shosen Gakko ) was founded. She was a public school in 1882 and changed its name to Tokyo Nautical School. You 1925 (东京 高等 商船 学校, Tōkyō Kōtō Shosen Gakko ) became the Higher Maritime School Tokyo. 1945, during the Pacific War, the three higher maritime education in Tokyo, Kobe and Shimizu ( Shizuoka ) were added to a school merged (Headquarters: Shimizu ).
