The Tolstoy (Russian Толстые ) are a well-known Russian Counts.

History

According to ancient histories, it could come Indri, a mid-14th century based in Chernihiv About settlers from the Holy Roman Empire, which adopted the Russian Orthodox faith and converted the name Leonti. One of his descendants, the Pyotr Andreyevich Tolstoy statesman (1645-1729), served at the Imperial Court under Peter the Great. In 1717 he was involved in the arrest and conviction of the rebellious son of Peter the Great, of Tsarevich Alexei.
