Toltrazuril is a drug from the group of triazine derivatives, against the protozoan ( coccidiosis, toxoplasmosis, sarcocystosis ) in veterinary medicine, both in mammals and birds is employed.

Toltrazuril is effective against all tested so far coccidia (including Toxoplasma gondii and Sarcocystis ). It inhibits the respiratory chain and the pyrimidine synthesis in the parasite and thus the development of the first and second Schizontengeneration. Against free sporozoites and merozoites, it is not effective. The drug does not prevent an immune status of the animal against coccidia.

The drug should not be used in lactating cows, chickens, whose eggs are intended for human consumption, and pregnant rabbits. In the hedgehog, the oral administration lead to mucous membrane irritation.
