Tom Abel

Tom Abel ( Thomas George Abel ) ( born September 3, 1970 in Straubing, Lower Bavaria ) is a German astrophysicist, cosmologist and high school teachers.

Life and work

After studying physics from 1991 to 1998 at the University of Regensburg Abel received his doctorate in 1999 at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich at Simon White on the topic: "The first structures in the universe: A theoretical study of the formation, evolution and impact subsequent offer of structure formation ". From 1999 to 2001, Abel Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, England and at the Harvard - Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts. From 2002 to 2004 Abel was an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University. Since 2004 he is professor at the Physics Department at Stanford University and director of the Computational Physics Department of the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology ( KIPAC ). Abel was the first simulated the decay of massive, metal-free stars that I belong to the generation of stars in the universe ( Population III ). One of his main projects is the search for the origin of the Very First Light in the Universe. He is considered one of the most important representatives of the computer-based astrophysics and cosmology. He is married and has one child.
