Tom Askey

Tom Askey ( born October 4, 1974 in Tonawanda, New York ) is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the course of his career, among other things, for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the National Hockey League.

Career

The Americans began his career in 1991 with the Wheatfield Blades and then went from 1992 to 1996 for ice hockey team from Ohio State University on the ice. He was elected in 1996 team due to his performances in the CCHA Second All-Star. During this time, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 in the eighth round in a total of 186 position of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. For the 1996/97 season he was with the Baltimore Bandits of the American Hockey League on the ice and was able to have in 40 games a catch rate of 88.7 percent, which he was able to record the first shutout of his professional career. The following year he played for both the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as well as for their farm team, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, in the American Hockey League. Since the Ducks received at that time with Mikhail Schtalenkow and Guy Hebert on two potential first-choice goalkeeper, Askey received in two years only seven appearances in the regular season of the National Hockey League and an insert in the play- offs.

In the season 1999/2000 he was in action at the Kansas City Blades and Houston Aeros of the International Hockey League, for whom he completed 13 games each. In September 2000, he signed as a free agent with the Rochester Americans. In the following five years he was able to have a constant catch quota 89-92 percent, but was denied him a regular place. In 2001 he received along with his team -mate Mika Noronen the Harry " Hap " Holmes Memorial Award for the lowest Gegentorschnitt awarded. In the 2005/06 season he played primarily at the Finnish team HIFK Helsinki of the SM - liiga in and changed in the same season for each few games available for local rivals Jokerit Helsinki and Fribourg- Gottéron from the Swiss National League A.

In the following year Askey returned to North America and the Kalamazoo Wings joined them. He stood at the Wings in 45 games in use and was able to post three shutouts. For the season 2007/ 08 he moved to the Serie A1, the highest Italian league, and played eleven games for the HC Alleghe. He then joined the gambling in the elite Ice Hockey League Nottingham Panthers. After the Panthers he reached a quota of 92 percent in 34 games, his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2008.

After almost two years without commitment Askey signed as a free agent in March 2010 at the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL. After a few days he left the club again, to have completed without a game.

Internationally

Askey represented his country at the World Championships in 1997, when he finished with the U.S. national team in the tournament in sixth place. In his only tournament use he suffered four goals.
