Tom, Dick and Harry

Hinz and Kunz ( complete: Heinrich and Konrad ) is a German phrase and synonym for "everyone ".

In the High Middle Ages, specifically from the 11th to the 13th century, were Heinrich (Short form: Hinz ) and Konrad (Short form: Kunz ) the names of many German rulers, after which named their children in a row and the simple population. Therefore, a large part of the men wore these names and there was an "inflation", from which ultimately formed the phrase still in use today. The term is attested since the 13th century, and commonly used as a mockery name from about the 15th century and finds, among other things in the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin and in the novella Michael Kohlhaas by Heinrich von Kleist use.

Hinz and Kunz is the title of a poem by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing. In Hamburg and the surrounding area was established in 1993 by extension, the homeless newspaper Hinz and Kunzt.

In the early 20th century there was the tobacco brand Hinz & Kunz Jewish tobacco factory and F. M. Liebhold in Heidelberg.
