Tom Fleming (athlete)

Tom Fleming ( born July 23, 1953) is a retired American marathoner.

In 1973 he was second in the Boston Marathon and won the New York City Marathon. In 1974 he repeated his second place in Boston. In 1975 he finished third in Boston and won again in New York City. The following year he was at the U.S. Knockout for the Olympic Games in Montreal fifth, won the Route du Vin and was the inaugural run as City New York City Marathon sixth. In 1977, he was sixth in Boston, twelfth in New York City, fourth in the Fukuoka Marathon and U.S. champion in the 30 - km road race. 1978 was followed by a tenth place in Boston the victory at the Cleveland Marathon, and in 1979 he finished fourth in Boston.

From 1991 to 1997 he was national coach of the U.S. track and field association in the field of long-distance running. He is currently working as a track coach at Montclair Kimberley Academy.
