Tom H. Koornwinder

Tom H. Koornwinder ( born September 19, 1943 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch mathematician who deals with analysis.

Koornwinder studied at Leiden University with a diploma in 1968 and in 1975 received his doctorate at the University of Amsterdam with Hans Lauwerier ( Jacobi polynomials and Their two- variable analogues ). He was from 1968 to 1992 at the Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam, 1992-2008 Professor of Analysis at the Korteweg -de Vries Institute, University of Amsterdam. 1997 to 2003 he was Director of the Institute.

He has been a visiting scientist at the Mittag-Leffler Institute and Isaac Newton Institute.

It deals with special functions, Lie groups, quantum groups and computer algebra and the interaction of these fields. Special orthogonal polynomials are named after him.
