Tom Hollander

Life

Tom Hollander first played theaters, until he came to film and television. Among other things, he was with his roles in Enigma - The Secret (2001), Pride and Prejudice (2005) and known in the two sequels of the pirate movie Pirates of the Caribbean as a character actor. He also played in 2004, also on the side of Johnny Depp in The Libertine. Several times he turned along with Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon, Jack Davenport, Keira Knightley and their former life partner Rupert Friend.

According to information Hollander was not particularly popular in school in the first few years. Together with his childhood friend Sam Mendes ( ex-husband of Kate Winslet and director of " American Beauty" ), he studied English at Cambridge University. Mendes led many local plays, directing, in which Hollander starred. When he got no place at drama school after graduating, he took Mendes ' offer, in its production of "The Threepenny Opera" in his play " Donmar Warehouse" participate. That was his introduction to professional acting.

Since then, he was in many plays in England (often " Donmar Warehouse" ) and also on Broadway in major and minor roles. He often took on the role of the villain. Besides, he also played with in several films, in which he frequently took small but fine supporting roles there.

Awards

In 1992 he received the Ian Charleson Award for his performance in " Way of the World", which was then listed in the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith. Together with the entire cast, he won the 2002 inter alia, the Screen Actor 's Guild Award for the overall performance of the ensemble in " Gosford Park". In 2005 he was nominated for the British Independent Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for " The Libertine ", but came away empty.
