Tom Mandrake

Tom Mandrake ( born 1956 ) is an American comic book artist.

Life and work

After studying at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, where he earned a degree in art design, Mandrake began in the 1980s to work as a cartoonist.

Since then he has worked primarily for publishers Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics and Dark Horse Comics.

For DC he drew series like Batman, Sgt Rock, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman, Firestorm, Hawkworld, Martian Manhunter and Justice League, as well as the mini-series The Kents. For Marvel, he designed some editions of the series Weapon X, Punisher, Dr. Strange and The Precinct, as well as the mini-series The Hulk Unchained. For image finally he drew of him self-created series Creeps. For the small publisher First Comics, he illustrated a comic adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet and the series Grimjack. In addition, Mandrake has the graphic novels The Forest King: The Woodlarks Shadow and Pat Novak Fore Hire illustrated. Frequent artistic partner of Mandrake are the author John Ostrander, and his own wife, the author Jan Duursema.

Away from the comic industry Mandrake has worked as an art director for the award winning independent film Zombie Prom.
