Tom McClintock

Thomas Miller "Tom" McClintock (* July 10, 1956 in Bronxville, New York) is an American politician. Since 2009 he represents the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tom McClintock studied until 1988 at the University of California at Los Angeles and worked as a journalist. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1982 and 1992, and again from 1996 to 2000 he was a deputy in the California State Assembly. After that, he was between 2000 and 2008 to the State Senate. In 1992, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress yet; In 2003 he went to in the by-election for the office of governor of California and was ranked third behind the victorious Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cruz Bustamante. Three years later he was unsuccessful also in the election for lieutenant governor.

In the congressional elections of 2008 McClintock was in the fourth electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Doolittle on January 3, 2009. According to previously re-election with 61.2 % of the vote he can exercise his mandate until today. McClintock is a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources, and in three of its subcommittees. He also is a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee and the Tea Party movement related Tea Party Caucus.

McClintock is married and has two children. Privately, he lives in Elk Grove.
