Tom Okker

Tom Okker ( born February 22, 1944 in Amsterdam, nicknamed The Flying Dutchman ) is a former Dutch tennis player. From 1964 to 1968 he was the fifth consecutive Dutch masters. Following his success as an amateur to Okker 1968 joined the professional tennis.

In 1968, he reached the quarter- finals of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. In the same year he was at the U.S. Open in the final, but it lost to the Americans Arthur Ashe.

Its highest ranking in the tennis world ranking reached Okker 1969, when he finished third behind the Australian Rod Laver and the American Arthur Ashe. Altogether he spent seven years in the top ten.

In 1978 he reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon again.

In his career Okker won a total of 22 tournaments in singles and 69 in doubles. In 2003, Tom Okker was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
