Tom Poti

Thomas Emilio Poti ( born March 22, 1977 in Worcester, Massachusetts) is an American professional ice hockey player who plays for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League since 2007.

Career

Poti played during his junior time for the Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. NHL Entry Draft 1996, the Edmonton Oilers secured the rights to him when they picked him in the third round as 59th.

From the 1998/99 season he played for the Oilers and it was too soon realize that he would develop into an above-average defender in the league. He was elected to the NHL All- Rookie Team. Towards the end of the 2001/02 season the Oilers Mike York brought by the New York Rangers in exchange attracted Poti and Rem Murray to Manhattan.

For the 2006/07 season he became a free agent for local rivals, the New York Islanders, but where he played only one season. In summer 2007, he signed a contract with the Washington Capitals.
