Tom Rachman

Tom Rachman ( born 1974 in London) is a British- Canadian journalist and writer.

Rachman grew up in Vancouver ( Canada). He studied film at the University of Toronto and journalism at Columbia University with a Master's degree. From 1998 he worked as an editor for the Associated Press (AP) in New York City and at times as a reporter in India and Sri Lanka. In 2002 he went as an AP foreign correspondent in Rome. Since 2006, Tom Rachman worked part-time as an editor for the International Herald Tribune in Paris. The Imperfectionists is his first novel and was simultaneously published in ten countries.

In Germany, the journalists novel also appeared in an abridged version read as an audio book, read by Heikko German man. For his debut novel he received in the U.S. one of the highest advances that have been paid in the last ten years for a first film. Brad Pitt bought the film rights. The book has been widely reviewed, in Germany, among others, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Christopher Buckley wrote in The New York Times about The Imperfectionists: "This first novel by Tom Rachman [ ... ] is so good that I had to read it twice [ ... ]. " The New York Times described him as alike " Love letter and epitaph on the world of newspapers. " The Focus wrote: "He is old world paper, printing ink and smoke-filled editorial offices, from breaking news, hasty interviews and pesky Zeilenschinderei a monument. "

Tom Rachman currently lives in Rome, where he is writing a new novel.
