Tom Reed (politician)

Thomas W. "Tom" Reed II ( born November 18, 1971 in Joliet, Illinois ) is an American politician of the Republican Party. Since 2010 he is a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 29th Congressional District of the State of New York.

Biography

Reed was born as the youngest of twelve children of an Army officer in Joliet. He grew up in Corning. His father died when he was two years old; his mother raised the children alone. After high school graduation in 1989 he went to Alfred University, where he received his Bachelor. At Ohio Northern University, he passed the examination in law. During his studies, Reed was a successful swimmer. After his mother's death he moved with his family in 1999 to Corning and opened his own law practice. From 2008 to 2010 he was mayor of Corning.

In November 2010, Reed was elected in a Special Election to succeed the retiring Eric Massa in the House of Representatives. He sat down with 56 % of the vote against the Democrats by Matthew Zeller. On November 18, Reed took off his oath of office. The inauguration was delayed for two days because he had to be admitted because of an acute thrombus hospitalized at George Washington University.

Tom Reed is married and has two children. He is Roman Catholic faith and lives in Corning.
