Tom Steels
Tom Steels ( born September 2, 1971 in Sint- Gillis- Waas ) is a former Belgian cyclist, who has been after his active career as a coach.
Career
While Tom Steels already achieved some victories in his first year as a pro in 1994, he achieved a breakthrough in 1996 by winning the Omloop Het Volk and Gent- Wevelgem from. He repeated his victory in Gent- Wevelgem classic in 1999 and was three times Belgian road champion.
Steels won numerous stages in tours, including a total of nine stages of the Tour de France, which alone four wins were on the tour in 1998 in the sprint. During the sprint goal of the 6th stage of the Tour de France in 1999, he felt hampered by Frédéric Moncassin and threw a water bottle on the French. Then disqualified the Tour-de -France - jury Steels and expelled him from the tour.
At the end of the 2008 season Steels ended his cycling career. In 2011, he became coach of the Quick Step Cycling Team.
