Tom Thumb

A Tom Thumb is in the fairy tale a human form, which is no bigger than a thumb.

This design is the Sigle Aath 700 allocated in the classification of fairytales after the Aarne -Thompson index, so it will be classified in the category of fairy tales. The most well-known in German-speaking version of the substance is the Grimms' fairy tale Tom Thumb, which is included in the list of Grimm 's Fairy Tales as KHM 37. A female equivalent thereto created Hans Christian Andersen in 1835 with his art fairy tale Thumbelina.

Contrast, the literary fairy tale Tom Thumb from the pen of the French writer Charles Perrault follow the subject Aath 327 ( also belonging to the category magic tales ) and is originally not related to the actual Däumlingsstoff; the title is explained by a deliberate contamination by Perrault.
