Tom Tully

Thomas " Tom" Tully ( born August 21, 1908 in Durango, Colorado, USA, † April 27, 1982 in Newport Beach, California, USA) was an American film and theater actor.

Life

As a young man Tully joined the United States Navy, where he remained several years. Although his debut in 1932 was as an actor - he was bound in a small supporting role in the film version of the Bible The Sign of the Cross - beganns Tully's career after his retirement from the Navy, in 1937, on Broadway. After he was able to gain experience in 10 plays to 1943, he moved in 1943 to the final medium of film, and therefore made ​​his comeback in the film drama Mission to Moscow as a film actor.

Tully's filmmaking, which extended over a period of three decades, was crowned sustained mainly by the mid- 1950s with success. To fall into this time of the 1954 war film produced The Caine Mutiny, for which the actor received a 1955 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In the second half of his career Tully's performances were largely limited to guest appearances on television series, including, inter alia, 1964 in Perry Mason and both in 1965 as well as 1967 in two episodes of Bonanza.

At the beginning of the 1970s - during the Vietnam War - was Tully member of the United Service Organizations, the Bob Hope belonged among others, and thus entertainer of U.S. troops.
