Tom yum

Tom Yam ( Thai: ต้มยำ ) is a hot - sour spicy soup of Thai cuisine.

It consists of broth and seasoned with fish sauce, shallots, roughly chopped lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, Thai ginger, tamarind for the acid and crushed chillies. It is then garnished with coriander leaves.

There are several cooking methods:

  • If tiger prawns ( Penaeus monodon or Litopenaeus vannamei about ), and mushrooms, is called the Court Tom Yam Goong or Tom Yam Kung ( ต้มยำ กุ้ง - the Thai " national soup ").
  • Other variants are Tom Yam Gai ( Chicken ), Tom Yam Pla ( fish ) and Tom Yam Talee ( with seafood ).
  • A modern variation, for example, the addition of coconut milk (Tom Yam Nam Khon, ต้มยำ น้ำ ข้น ) (not to be confused with Tom Kha Gai, prepared only from coconut milk ).
