Tomasz Adamek

Tomasz Adamek ( born December 1, 1976 in Gilowice, powiat Żywiec, Poland) is a Polish professional boxer and former WBC champion at light heavyweight and former IBF cruiserweight champion. Since 2009 he is boxing in the heavyweight division.

Amateur

Adamek began at the age of twelve years in the Polish boxing club Góral Żywiec with boxing training. He then moved several times the club. In 1994 he became Polish Junior middleweight champion, 1995 Polish Champion (adults, elite class ) in the middleweight division, and again in 1996 Polish middleweight champion and Polish Under-20 champion. In 1997 he won after final defeat by Józef Gilewski the runner-up title.

The 9th World Championships in Budapest in 1997, he retired from still in the second round against Russian Dmitry Strelchinin. For this he won the 1998 bronze medal at the 32nd European Championships in Minsk, after he was eliminated only in the semifinal against Alexander Lebsiak.

Adamek denied an amateur boxing matches 120, of which he won 108.

Professional career

In 1999, Adamek in the professional camp. 21 May 2005 Adamek boxed against Australian Paul Briggs in Chicago for the world championship belt heavyweight of WBC. Adamek won the fight on points ( 117-113, 115-113, 114-114 ). His first title defense took place in October 2005 in Dusseldorf against the German Thomas Ulrich instead. Adamek won by technical whacked in the sixth round. In his second defense of the title he struck again shortly after on Paul Briggs, had the fight to the ground, however, and got a shock because of a low point deduction. On 3 February 2007, he lost by a marked point defeat against the undefeated American Chad Dawson for the WBC title.

Adamek moved after this defeat the weight class and went on in the cruiserweight division. In an IBF eliminator of the Association he hit on April 19 in Katowice, the former IBF, WBC and WBA champion O'Neil Bell by Technical Co in the seventh round. On December 11, 2008, he called out then the reigning IBF champion Steve Cunningham and won the belt with a points victory after twelve rounds. Adamek defeated the Americans in the course of the meeting three times to the ground.

In his first title defense Adamek defeated on 27 February 2009 sovereign previously unbeaten Johnathon Banks by Ko in the eighth round. After just one more title defense he put the IBF title down to again go up one weight class and compete against his fellow countryman Andrzej Gołota at heavyweight. The fight against the already 41 -year-old Golota took place on 24 October 2009 in Łódź and Adamek won by a Technical Co in the fifth round. He remained in the heavyweight division, defeating In 2010, Jason Estrada, Chris Arreola and Michael Grant on points, Vinny Maddalone by Technical Co in the fifth round, and in April 2011 Kevin McBride on points.

10 September 2011 Tomasz Adamek boxed against Vitali Klitschko for the WBC World Championship. The fight took place in the scheme established for the 2012 European Football Championship Miejski football stadium in Wroclaw. After considering guided Klitschko won the fight by technical co in the 10th round.

On 24 March 2012 Tomasz Adamek scored in New York in a ten round fight against Nagy Aguilera a unanimous points victory. By the end of victories followed against Eddie Chambers, Travis Walker and Steve Cunningham.
