Tomasz Majewski

Tomasz Majewski ( born August 30, 1981 in Nasielsk ) is a Polish shot putter. He was Olympic champion in 2008 and 2012.

Life

Majewski was fourth at the 2003 U23 European Championships. His first international success in the asset class was the fourth place at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest in 2004. At the Olympic Games in Athens, he failed to qualify. He was at the World Championships in Helsinki seventh and won gold at the Universiade in Izmir in 2005.

2006 Majewski were each sixth in the World Indoor Championships in Moscow and at the European Championships in Gothenburg. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he reached the fourth place with its previously best distance of 20.87 meters. In 2008 he won at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia with his Hallenbestleistung 20.93 m bronze.

The first major highlight of his career came at the Olympic Games in Beijing: With the personal record of 21.51 meters he won the gold medal with almost half a meter ahead of Christian Cantwell (USA). Thereafter, he also won the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart with 20,88 m.

2009 Majewski became European Champion at the European Indoor Championships in Turin. In the summer he improved his best jump to 21.95 m. At the World Championships in Berlin, he met with 21,91 m close to this brand approach, but had to concede defeat Christian Cantwell won and won the silver medal. Second, he was also in the World Final in Thessaloniki.

At the World Indoor Championships Doha 2010in he increased while the Polish indoor record at 21.20 m, but this was only enough for fourth place. At the European Championships in Barcelona in second place with only one centimeter behind the White Russians Andrei Mikhnevich. 2013 Mikhnevich was disqualified for a breach of the doping regulations, and Majewski was subsequently gold. At the end of the season, he finished second at the first IAAF Continental Cup in Split. The following year he finished eighth at the World Championships in Daegu.

In Istanbul he met at the World Indoor Championships in 2012 with 21.72 m Polish record and could thus secure the bronze medal. At the Olympic Games in London, he could repeat his Olympic victory in Beijing. He is the third shot putter in the history who achieved a repeat of the Olympic victory in the shot put. He pushed 21,89 m, down three inches in front of the silver medalist David Storl from Germany. In 2013 he was sixth at the World Championships in Moscow.
