Tomi Kallio

Tomi Kristian Kallio ( born January 27, 1977 in Turku ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since 2011 in Växjö Lakers in the Swedish Elitserien under contract.

Career

Tomi Kallio began his career as a hockey player in the youth of TPS Turku, for his first team, he made his debut in the SM- liiga in the 1995/96 season. Previously, he had been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1995 in the fourth round as a total of 81 players from the Colorado Avalanche. This, however, never took him to Ubterschrift under an NHL contract. Instead, the attacker won the 1997 European Hockey League and was runner-up in 1996 and 1997 respectively, and in the 1998/99 season for the first time Finnish Champion with Turku.

After Kallio had in the 1999/2000 season reached the third place in the European Hockey League, he moved to North America, where he received a contract with the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League. The Thrashers had chosen the Finn in the NHL Expansion Draft in 1999 out of the player pool of the Colorado Avalanche. Kallio had the young team from Atlanta after two years - at the beginning of the season 2002/ 03 - leave after the Thrashers had delivered in a comprehensive four players transfer business to the Columbus Blue Jackets him. There he found their way just as with the Philadelphia Flyers, who had selected him for a month after the transfer to the Blue Jackets of the waiver list. Kallio's engagement in Philadelphia ended after only three weeks when the winger end of January was released from his contract in 2003 and finished the season at Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien. This season he won the first Swedish championship title. With Frölunda, for which he runs since then, Kallio won in the 2004/05 season again the Swedish Championship.

After eight years Kallio left the Frölunda HC and joined the 2011/12 season the league rivals Växjö Lakers at.

Internationally

For Kallio of Finland participated in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1995, the U20 Junior World Championships in 1996 and 1997, as well as the World Championships in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 in part. In addition, he was in the squad Finland at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Overall Kallio won three silver and two bronze medals in international tournaments.
