Tommaso Ceva

Tommaso Ceva (* December 20, 1648 in Milan, † February 3, 1736 ) was an Italian Jesuit priest, poet and mathematician. He is the brother of the Italian mathematician Giovanni Ceva (1647 or 1648-1734, set of Ceva ).

Life

Tommaso Ceva occurred in 1663 in the Jesuit order and lectured at several colleges of the Order until his death. He wrote, among other things, the Latin poem Puer Jesus, that he himself wanted to know viewed as comic epic.

His treatise De natura gravium ( Milan 1669) made ​​the first Newton's theory of gravity known in Italy and contributed to its dissemination.

In his Opuscula mathematica ( Milan 1699), he presented several mathematical investigations, the division of the angle. Ceva also invented an instrument for angular pitch.
