Tommaso Pasquale Gizzi

Tommaso Pasquale Gizzi ( born September 22, 1787 Ceccano, † June 3, 1849 in Lenola ) was Cardinal Secretary of State.

Life

Gizzi studied at the seminary in Ferentino theology and was ordained priest on September 2, 1810. 1817 in Rome as Dr. jur. utr. his doctorate, he was in 1819 Advocat at the Rota Romana 1820-1823 Auditor at the Nunciature to Lucerne in Switzerland. He was also from 1823 to 1827 and Charge d'Affaires 1827-1828 Internuncio. After working in comparable positions in Munich, Turin, Vienna and Brussels, he was Apostolic Delegate in 1837 in Ancona, which he remained until 1839. Appointed on 18 February 1839 Titular Archbishop of Thebes and consecrated by Cardinal Giacomo Filippo Fransoni on April 21, 1839 Bishop, he was nuncio in Switzerland from June 1839 to the end of April 1841 and then by 1841 to 1844 as nuncio Turin to go. Elevated to cardinal Already on July 12, 1841 in pectore, he was made Cardinal Priest of Santa Pudenziana 1844 and August 8, 1846 Cardinal Secretary of State on January 22, however, he held only until 1847.
