Tommaso Riario Sforza

Tommaso Cardinal Riario Sforza ( born January 8, 1782 Naples, † March 14, 1857 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

Since 1793 at the Collegio Nazareno in Rome studying, he started on April 19, 1804 his service to the papal curia as clerk of the Apostolic Signatura. Since 1806 apostolic prothonotary, he was relator 1806 of the Prefecture for the good government even before 13 September. This he remained until 1808. Since 8 December 1814, the Congregation of the Council of Trent belonging, he was born on March 9, 1816 Apostolic Delegate in Macerata and on July 22, 1816 Maestro di camara.

Pope Pius VII created Riario Sforza on March 10, 1823 Cardinal and appointed him on 16 May 1823 Cardinal Deacon of San Giorgio in Velabro. After he had been ordained priest on 28 September 1823 he was on November 17, 1823 cardinal deacon of Santa Maria in Domnica. Appointed on 12 March 1825 a member of the first State of the Congregation, he was on March 15, 1826 President of the Subsidienkommission, on October 1, 1826 Prefect of the Congregation of Propaganda and economy of 1828-1830 Camerlengo of the Sacred College.

Since April 17, 1829 Apostolic legate of the province of Forli, he returned to the conclave of 1830 no longer on these items back, but remained in Rome. On December 5, 1834 appointed Apostolic legate of Urbino and Pesaro, he moved on December 19, 1834 Cardinal Deacon of Santa Maria in Via Title Lata. Maintaining his first title church was granted to him until 1837.

As a cardinal deacon, he was on January 24, 1843 Prefect of the Congregation for the good government and on April 3, 1843 Cardinal Chamberlain of the Roman Church. Pope Pius IX. appointed Riario Sforza on December 27, 1847 Minister of Economy, agriculture, industrialization and Beaux -Arts. On 12 February 1848 he renounced but on his ministry and was appointed at the same time as Prefect of the Congregation for public affairs. From this he resigned on 28 February 1848.
