Tommy Anderson (ice hockey)

Tom Linton "Tommy" Anderson ( born July 9, 1911 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, † 1971) was a Canadian ice hockey player (defender) and coach, from 1934 to 1942 for the Detroit Red Wings and New York Americans and Brooklyn Americans played in the National Hockey League.

Career

Born in Scotland, he grew up in Calgary. He played for the Philadelphia Arrows in the Canadian - American Hockey League.

In the 1934/35 season he played partially at the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL and in the IHL for the Detroit Olympics with whom he also managed to win the title. For the 1935/36 season he was sold to the New York Americans. In the seven years with the Americans scoring four times more than ten goals as a defender. With his team, he had little success, but was one of the strong defenders in the league. He had his best season 1941/42. The most valuable player in the league, he was awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy. After the season, the Americans stopped the game operation and Anderson went to the military. He played the next few years for the Calgary Currie Army.

After a few seasons in the lower classes, he was coach of the Oshawa Generals. Later he was also behind the boards of the Pittsburgh Hornets, the former farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Calgary Stampeders.
