Tommy Samuelsson

Alf Tommy Samuelsson ( born January 12, 1960 in Degerfor ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current coach. Since 2011 he has been head coach at the Vienna Capitals of the Austrian Hockey League.

Career

Tommy Samuelsson began his career as a hockey player in the junior department of Mariestads BoIS. From there he moved to Färjestad BK, for the first team, he was continuously from 1976 to 1995 in the Elitserien, the highest Swedish league active. During this period he won with the team during the years 1981, 1986 and 1988 by the Swedish championship title. In the years 1983, 1987, 1990 and 1991 he also failed with the team only in each championship final. He himself was during his time at Färjestad BK to the guide players of the club and was even awarded in the 1985/86 season with the Guldpucken as the best Swedish player. Samuelsson is the Wiener EV After 19 years at FBK, joined the 1995/96 season of the Austrian Hockey League. There he remained as a year like then at SC Lucerne from the Swiss National League B. Following the 1997/98 season in which he had stood again for the Wiener EV on the ice, the Swede ended his active career.

From 1999 to 2004 Samuelsson worked as an assistant coach at his hometown club Färjestad BK. With the team he won in this position again in 2002 the Swedish championship title and was runner-up in 2003 and 2004 respectively. In parallel, he was between 2002 and 2006 assistant coach of the Swedish national team. In the season 2004/ 05 he took over for the first time the office of the head coach, as he stood by the HC Innsbruck in Austria behind the gang. He then took over as coach at Skellefteå AIK from the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan with which he reached in 2006 immediately move up to the Elitserien. Following this success, he again took the office as an assistant coach at Färjestad BK, where he took over the head coaching job by Roger Melin during the season 2007/ 08. 2009 and 2011 he was more times Swedish Champion with the FBK. Since 2011, he coached the Vienna Capitals in Austria.

Internationally

For Sweden, Samuelsson took at junior level at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1977 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1978, 1979 and 1980 in part. In the U18 European Championship in 1977, he won with his team the gold medal at the U20 World Championships, he won two bronze and one silver medal.

In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989 and 1990 and at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and in Calgary in 1988. In addition, he represented Sweden at the 1987 Canada Cup. At the World Championships in 1981, 1986 and 1990, he won the silver medal with Sweden, respectively, at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1988, he won the team bronze medals.
