Tomten (poem)

Tomte Tummetott is a 1960 children's book by Astrid Lindgren published with drawings by Harald Wiberg. The translation of the German edition is by Silke of Geesthacht.

The story is an adaptation of the Swedish poem " Tomten " by Viktor Rydberg (1881 ). The story is about the Nisse Tomte Tummetott coming out in a winter night from his hiding in a hayloft and looks after the sleeping people and animals of the farm. Tomte is the good house spirit of the farm, of whether the cold winter awards courage cows, chickens and lambs and night watches over the parents and children - and have been for many centuries. " Tomte " is Swedish and Finnish name for the mythical figure of the Nisse.

A continuation Räven Tomten och Karl -Erik Forsslund 1966 also adapted by Astrid Lindgren. The German edition was published under the title " Tomte and the Fox ". Tomte helps in this story of a hungry fox, which comes one night on the farm.
