Tonekābon (Persian تنكابن; Tonekābon ) is an Iranian city in the province Māzandarān. It is located on the Caspian Sea and has a temperate humid climate. The city is located 250 kilometers from the provincial capital of Tehran.

History

Originally, the region belonged to the province of Gilan Tonekābon. Numerous findings in this area show that Tonekābon was once a thriving city. The old Tonekābon was in Royan territory, also called Rostamdār, ruled over the to the reign of Shah Abbas I. Pādusbanān. Until the accession of the Qajar Āqā Mohammad Khān, the city was known then under the name of Faiz. After the fall of this dynasty was called the city Schahsavār and received after the Islamic Revolution back its original name.
