Tong Ling (table tennis)

Tong Ling (Chinese童 玲, Pinyin Tong Ling; born July 13, 1962) is a Chinese table tennis player. It belonged in the 1980s to the world's best players and won the World Championship four times.

Tong Ling is defender and plays in shakehand style. She was nominated four times for the World Championships. She was 1981 World Champion in singles and with the Chinese team. Insiders suspect, however, that the final victory over the favorite Cao Yanhua was arranged by team order by the Chinese leadership the team title defended in 1983 and 1985. 1981 she took another silver in the doubles with Pu Qijuan and mixed with Chen Xinhua. Also in 1983, she reached the final in mixed doubles with the same partner. Until 1986 it belonged to the Chinese national team.

In 1988, Tong Ling to Germany and joined the Bundesliga club TSG Dülmen. With this team she won 1990/91 European Cup ETTU. In 1992 she married a Chinese and moved to Australia.
