Toni Koivisto

Petteri Toni Koivisto ( born November 5, 1982 in Ylitornio ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since May 2013 in Lukko Rauma of the SM- liiga under contract.

Career

Toni Koivisto began his career as a hockey player with Lukko Rauma, for by 2005 he was active from 1999 in the SM- liiga. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round in 2001 when a total of 200 players from the Florida Panthers, for whom he never played, however. After six years at Lukko Rauma Koivisto moved within the highest Finnish ice hockey league to Ilves Tampere, for which he was on the ice for three years before he received a contract with the reigning Finnish champions Kärpät Oulu ahead of the 2008 /09 season, for which he then ran aground in the Champions Hockey League in all four group matches. In these games, he recorded two points scorer, including a goal. In addition, he has been this season runner-up with Kärpät.

After this success, Koivisto was obliged by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League, for whom he scored 21 points scorer in 59 games. In 2010 he again left the Russian team and was taken from the Frölunda HC of the Elitserien under contract. For Frölunda Koivisto played until end of October 2011, before his contract was terminated and he found a new club in Luleå HF. In February 2012, he signed a contract extension until 2014, but was not effective because Koivisto returned in May 2013 to his hometown club to Rauma.

Internationally

For Finland Koivisto participated in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2000, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002 in part. With the U18 Koivisto was world champion as he ever won a silver and a bronze medal with the U20 national team.
