Tonk (princely state)

Tonk (Hindi: टोंक, Tonk ) was one of the princely states of Rajputana in present-day Rajasthan ( British India ), named after the capital of the same name. It consisted of several separate parts (see historical map of Rajasthan ) and in 1941 had a surface area of ​​6578 km ² and 365,000 inhabitants.

The princely state was of the Afghan adventurer and leader of the Pindari Amir Khan - founded - a Muslim. This was in 1799 entered the service of the Maratha leader Yashwant Rao Holkar, the Maharaja of Indore in 1806 and was on his first appropriated lands. In the following years he took part in the wars between Jaipur and Marwar then he turned against the Marathas of Nagpur. In 1817, the intervention of the British East India Company ended the Third Marathenkrieg the power of Pindaris. Amir Khan accepted the British protection, for which he (Arabic governor ) got his possessions and the title of Nawab guaranteed.

On March 25, 1948, the ruling Nawab of the Union of Rajasthan joined, on 7 April 1949, he completed the connection to India. On November 1, 1956, the princely state was dissolved.
