Tonka Bay is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located on Lake Minnetonka and has about 1500 inhabitants.

Geography

Tonka Bay is located between the upper and lower Lake Minnetonka. The city is located about 27 kilometers west of Minneapolis in the metropolitan Minneapolis -Saint Paul. According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of ​​the city is 2.5 square kilometers, of which 0.1 square miles of water.

History

The first settlers settled since the mid 19th century in Tonka Bay down. The place, at that time still located in Excelsior Township, developed as soon resort. With the Lake Park Hotel (later Tonka Bay Hotel) there was also the first grand hotel built in 1879 at the lake. On September 11, 1901 Tonka Bay was formed as a Village.
